In every city, town and wide spot in the road you will find animal shelters or other places backed by the ASPCA where you will find wonderful dogs or puppies you can give a loving home to.

It is impossible to know how many stray dogs and cats live in the United States but estimates for cats alone runs to 70 million. If you have your heart set on a pure breed by all means buy one from a reputable breeder. But if you just want a happy puppy to love and care for or an older dog that may already be house trained and great with kids, please consider rescuing a dog or puppy from being destroyed by visiting your local chapter of the ASPCA or your local animal shelter.
